Frequently Asked Questions
• Do I have to pre-register for this ride?
Yes. With 31 legs of this ride nationwide and over 5,000 riders on the roads, pre-registration is vital for safety, merchandise and catering.
• How do I pre-register?
Find your local ride here, and click on the registration link. You can pay via credit or debit card (pre-paid Visas are available at Australia Post Outlets or here).
• Where do I get a ride patch?
If you have pre-registered, when you check in on the ride day you will be issued with a Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer badge and decal. If you haven't pre-registered, you will only receive a ride badge and decal if there are enough to spare. Pre-registration helps us stock enough BDR merchandise for all riders.
• Does ride registration include meals and drinks?
No, payment of all refreshments on the day are the responsibility of the rider.
• I have a scooter, can I join the ride?
All vehicles joining the ride must be able to safely maintain highway speeds, be registered and insured. We ask that smaller machines and P platers stay at the rear of the group at all times for the safety of all road users.
• I'm on my L Plates. Can I still join the ride?
Learner Riders are most welcome on Black Dog Ride 1 Dayers. They must remain at the rear of the group under the supervision of an experience licensed rider at all times whilst on the road with Black Dog Ride to ensure the safety of all road users.
• What do I do if I need a refund?
Please contact Fiona who will assist you.
• Why do I need to fill out certain info when registering for the ride?
You will need your bike rego number and next of kin name and contact number to complete registration. This is to ensure we can fulfil our duty of care for over 5,000 riders nationwide should an accident or medical emergency arise. Please do not use your pillion or visa versa as a next of kin contact. Use the details of a trusted person whom we can contact should you require medical or emergency assistance on the ride. Black Dog Ride complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and your information is never shared or sold with any outside entities.
• Will Winston be available for purchase on the day?
Merchandise at the 31 legs of the 1 Dayer will be limited. You can buy your BDR gear online here.
• Help! I have never joined a group ride before! What advice do you have for me?
Australian Road Rider Mag has some good general advice about group rides here. Contact your Ride Coordinator for more specific advice.
• Are all roads sealed?
Yes, the rides are conducted on sealed roads, however there may be unforeseen roadworks on route. Your local Ride Coordinator can advise you.
• What if the ride route changes or there is inclement weather?
Should unforeseen circumstances arise, Ride Coordinators will email you.
• I saw an "overseas transaction tax" on my bank statement! What is this?
As the registration portal used, Eventbrite, is an overseas company, Australian banks may impose an 'overseas transaction tax' when you purchase your ticket. This amount varies between banks of between 20 cents and 80 cents. Please understand that this is out of Black Dog Ride's control and Black Dog Ride is not the recipient of this 'overseas transaction tax'. For more information, contact your bank.
